God made me say it

howie DUH
Howie D says that though God was radio silent with him on the bike path incident, he's been speaking to him lately.

On Wednesday Dean said in an interview, "from a religious point of view, if God had thought homosexuality is a sin, he would not have created gay people." [ed: -- moxie is very okay with -- using Dean's term -- "gay people" and doesn't need god's permission to justify. Advance apologies for the following "if god created" analogy.]

By that same theory,

If God didn’t want to steal from the rich to give to the poor he wouldn’t have created Democrats.

This kind of thinking is why I am an atheist.

If God had thought that dictatorships were bad, he wouldn't have created the U.N. to support them...

Good thing murder is okay with the Almighty, since otherwise he wouldn't have created knives, guns, or football sized rocks (Hulk smash!).

What's that, you say? Voluntary moral restraints are completely different from involuntary physical restraints? Holy Crap! Paradigm shift!

Atheist?! I must immediately run over there and convert you! Oh wait, I'm not that kind of believer.

God just pushed the button on the primal matter igniter and has been sitting back watching us make fools of ourselves ever since.

"if god had thought murder was a sin, he wouldn't have created 'psychos"

I don't mean crazy people or mental, but people like charlie manson, pol pot, hitler, etc.....

If God didn't want us to laugh at Dean making loads of idiotic statements, He wouldn't have created the year 2004.

Moxie likes Johnny. Coolness points now going hyperbolic.

Is it just me, or does Dean look like Homer Simpson on cheap weed?

Oh blast the double post. Your server doesn't like me, mox. Tell the cats to stop chewing on it. ;)

What a great picture!

Like I said before - Dean = D*mb*ss.. The democratic party is pathetic and has no chance in hell or highwater...

I'm no Dean fanatic, but why didn't you print the quote in its entirety?

"The overwhelming evidence is that there is very significant, substantial genetic component to it," Dean said in an interview Wednesday. "From a religious point of view, if God had thought homosexuality is a sin, he would not have created gay people."

It seems to me that the intent of Dean's comment was that homosexuality has a genetic component and in his view, god had a hand in genetics.

It seems like your attacks on Dean are bordering the pettiness of the left's attacks on Bush.

I might be wrong, but I think Moxie was just pointing out the general hypocrisy of Dean. He suddenly finds religion, tells everyone he's just reluctant to talk about it because he's a Yankee, and now he's using his religion to justify a policy decision. Granted, I doubt that God is actually his reason for supporting gay marriage, but that just makes Howie even more of a hypocrite.

Posted by: Trevor at January 9, 2004 9:28 AM

That's part of it Trevor but the larger message is that genetics also plays a role in other things like criminal behavior for instance.

In order for Howie D's statement to be true it would also have to hold true for other genetically determined things...

"If god didn't think murder was okay he would never have created Mohammad Atta"

And again, I don't believe in god nor do I believe that homosexuality is wrong, it's just his logic that is ridiculous. Or childish...and oh yeah hypocritical :)

Posted by: Moxie at January 9, 2004 9:36 AM

I suppose you would have to assert that being a murder is a genetic trait to equate the two statements. I'm not aware of that being true, you might try to link it through psycholgical probelms or something along those lines.

The genetics involved in sexual preference are more bacic, in my view, as instinctual urges. Also, in my view, being a murder is not a basic urge like the physical attraction to another human. I believe that a combination of factors are involved in becoming a murder, and the idea that the two could be equated is far from my reasoning skills.

I'm not really trying to change anyone's mind here, just stating my observations.

Jonah, I'm not sure that anyone's mind has been changed by a blog comment... so we'll all assume that you're not actually attempting the impossible ;)

Moxie,

If you like Cash, you should try to get your hands on the DVD Heartworn Highways. It's awesome, even though one rustic believes that, by the 1970s, Cash had done shot his wad and that the grand ole opry had grown a bit snobbish.

When I first heard Dean's comment I almost could not believe that someone could be so dumb, but then I recall that it is Dean. Dan Quail and his potato incident, and Al Gore inventing the Internet cannot even hold a candle to all the stuff he has said.

Good one, Mox!

Posted by: d-rod at January 10, 2004 12:30 PM

I submit that there is more scientific evidence suggesting a serial killer is born with physical traits lending to a predisposition to kill than there is evidence that a homosexual was born with an attraction to members of the same sex. Dean’s comment, in its entirety, is just as asinine as the original excerpt. Amen?

Hey Im not trying to convert you but I just figured I should put some input on this subject. Homosexuality is a sin just like killing some one. The deal is people don't understand what sin is, sin is just not obeying God. Every person on this Earth is a sinner. The only man who has ever walked the Earth and not sinned was Christ but that is only because His father was God. We all need Jesus to be cleansed of our sins. The thing is God isn't going to force us to obey him. Its our choice. Just give you some thought from a Christian on this subject.
