imPALINme

I’m really tired of thinking about Sarah Palin. It’s the eve of our country’s unofficial birthday and the last thing I want to think about is why someone quits. Once you quit, you are a loser. Period.

What if our founding fathers quit? Would we give them a second chance? Would we even know their names hundreds of years later?

I liked Sarah Palin because she’s got the fiscally conservative ideas going, and for me as an atheist, I liked that her speeches weren’t endless references to god and jesus. Conservatism may not be perfect, but it’s the best we got.

Calm down my libertarian friends. Go look at the Reason Magazine piece listing which staff members and associates voted for who, then read the current whining about Barack. They got exactly what they voted for. Bob Barr (wasted votes), and most went with socialism in the name of God, Jr. because he’s black and knows his way around a teleprompter. Yep. The magazine lost all credibility in my eyes, which makes me really sad.

So anyway, back to quitters. This appears to be a horrible mistake on Sarah’s part, or perhaps she’s truly done with politics, for the sake of her family, which is a noble decision. That I can understand, but she should have said as much. Now we sit around whispering about possible scandals instead of enjoying the 4th and what is left of our freedom.

The only thing that makes me slightly happy is thinking of all those liberal MSM lemmings on flights to Alaska, when they thought this would be a weekend with friends and family. Enjoy that flight, folks! And please, don’t worry at all about the family you are harming.

  1. On Sarah Palin’s Resignation…

this speech may have been Palin’s “you won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore” moment…Even so, it still doesn’t look good. Moxie thinks likewise….

  2. I not so sure Mox, maybe she is being crazy like a fox. Now she gets to go be the conservative rock star, raise money and see what happens. She is only 45 and it is a long ball game…

  3. WE'RE DOOMED Says:

Don’t count your eggs before they are hatched Moxie. And don’t put all of your eggs in one basket either. Sarah Palin is an unfinished product. If she wants to run for the presidency in 2012 she needs much refinement. Maybe she is a Ross Perot type of candidate who needs to be kept as far away from the Whitehouse as is humanly possible. Perhaps she is going to spend some time educating herself on domestic and foreign issues, which she certainly needs to do. I don’t think she is stupid. Her grasp and understanding of the issues she deals with in Alaska is very refined and spot on.

Political candidates are like the people we seek out to date or marry. They aren’t perfect and a lot of them move on to obscurity or something else. The Republican party will have a Presidential candidate in 2012. The question is this, Moxie. Will your party run with a sacrificial lamb like Dole or McCain? Or a candidate like Bush or Bush who are just running at the right time? Or will they field another heavy hitter like Reagan? My guess is with the direction the country is going and the blunders being made by President Obama they will only need to field a Bush type Candidate to win. Sarah Palin is the Bush type candidate now. With refinement and good guidance she might transform into a Reagan type candidate. Finally Moxie, in politics as in life, “live in hope, die in despair”.

  4. Those of you who are calling Sarah Palin a “quitter” and a “loser” might want to recall that the attacks she was getting weren’t just against her but against her family. In fact, the beasts in the Obamedia had long since turned from attacking her solely and had turned to attacking her children. If it were just her alone I’d be with you in the “weak, no spine, no stamina” argument, but none of us have any right to expect her children (you could argue that Bristol is an adult now by her own actions as well as her age, but Willow Palin is only fourteen — she has just been made the butt of a rape joke about her on national tv by a beloved talk show host, and Trig is just a baby) to put up with such treatment as the Sarah haters have been slimed with. Also, do I really need to remind everyone that Sarah Palin was no longer running for anything — that she was simply trying to do the job that she already had? The media treatment and the constant petty lawsuits were simply revenge for being who and what she was: a successful, conservative woman with a happy family who is popular with the common people.

And if you argue that then it’s still her fault because she shouldn’t have entered politics in such a climate, I don’t know what to do with you. Such an attitude basically capitulates to the depraved, corrupt state of politics today, where if you want to run for office you have to be inhumanly perfect and your family has to be willing to enter a socially lifeless black hole from which they can only emerge for posed photo ops, and you had better not give birth to a retarded kid.

  5. I agree that BHO has been a disaster so far. But I don’t see any evidence that Palin is a fiscal conservative, or that a McCain-Palin administration would have embraced balanced budgets, let alone small government.
Would they have been better than BHO and hairplug Joe? Probably, but not by much.
As for secularism, Palin is some kind of evangelical, isn’t she?
(btw, I like her and think she has been subject to vicious treatment by the MSM. As you point out, though, good conservative pols just deal with it. They don’t quit. And I still can’t get over the fact that she was so ill-prepared for those interviews during the campaign).

  6. I agree with Andrea, except for a few things. Willow was not the butt of a rape joke: Bristol was. Letterman had Cheney’s people doing his Intel gathering. I think they are a big happy family and you know, they say the best thing about Downs’s children, is they are always happy, except when you call them retarded; then they cry. I think the attacks on her and her loved ones are unfortunate but she schlepped them out in all their tattered glory, what did she think would happen? That the press would make nice to her fallen daughter and the lout boyfriend? Buying him a suit and taking down his face book page hardly qualifies as his being rehabilitated. Let’s not forget the Bristol baby’s other grandma going to jail for drug distribution. I could just picture Sarah and Levi’s mom talking on hand sets through the glass planning a baby shower. Now there’s an image the press didn’t have to make up. CHARACTER-who she surrounds herself with and how her children turn out are all indices of who she is. We know she is ignorant (even her hopefully rehearsed resignation speech was convoluted, disjointed and childish, she makes Bush sound like William Safire) and ill informed. And know that so many REPUBLICANS who worked with her are telling all we see her stubbornness, vanity, arrogance and defensiveness illuminated. For information about her character we need the whole picture of her life and it is not a pretty picture. Her family is anything but happy-you know what they say about trusting the man who tells you he is honest. Read the Vanity Fair profile last month.

She is going nowhere politically in this country. To suggest she could become a “heavy hitter” like RR is delusional, but I hope they try to groom her and she sucks the already shallow breath from the mouth of the moribund RP.

  7. I love the Reason poll. It shows exactly what’s wrong with Libertarianism. These people would vote for the Easter Bunny, just to make a statement no one cares about. If Christmas came and you gave them socks they didn’t like, they’d protest by cutting off their feet. And again, no one would care.

Claiming Republicans are just like Democrats…the word “wrong” doesn’t begin to describe it.

Bad is better than worse. How can adults be unable to understand that? It was bad when George Bush allowed Congress to waste billions and when he joined the bailout cult. It’s worse when Obama and Congress get together to waste trillions, while using a moronic ecological religion to justify taking control of our daily lives. At least George Bush let us buy toilet paper, guns, and light bulbs.

They should rename their rag Pyrrhic Monthly or The Spite Report.

  8. Skating on glue... Says:

Palin quit because it was the only play left to her.

She was being bankrupted and her political clout was being drained away through a near constant stream of lies, bogus ethics charges, faux feminist pad throwers being braindead catty, and once funny creepy old farts saying hideous things about her. She was a sitting target, and couldn’t fight back due to her office.

Sure, she could have sucked it up and stayed through to the end of her term…and been a couple mill in debt and bereft of any political capital or clout.

Oh, but then she wouldn’t be a “quitter”.

    Neat.

Can’t wait for her first speech mocking plastic messiah’s idiocy. Maybe he’ll do something smart in response, like scratch his stupid face with his middle finger while saying Palin’s name.

  9. Skating on glue: way to go and well said. Perfect comment and I agree with every word.

Mox, my very first gut reaction was pretty brutal and similar to yours. But 24 hours later I find myself becoming a radicalized feminist. At the age of 48, having no experience with radicalism or feminism, I am unclear as to what I should do first: kick my husband in the nuts or burn my bra.

Seriously, though, I have decided I am with Sarah Palin 110%. Whether she simply wants to cash in on the speaking tour or whether she is seeking the White House in 2012. I won’t necessarily support her in the primary but I will be very, very happy and proud that she is there.

I cannot fully express my high regard for Sarah Palin or my utter contempt for a nation that would conduct and/or stand by and watch the Taliban-esque treatment of this fine woman and her family. There is a higher moral component to what Sarah represents and to what has occurred in full view of a supposedly civilized and evolved society. I am compelled to stand against the Stoning of Sarah and to stand with the Palins, whatever they choose to do next.

  10. virgil xenophon Says:

Aside from the fact that everything is still in the speculation stage I would point out that, as has been mentioned elsewhere (can’t remember where, now, such is the nature of the blogosphere) that campaigning for national office from Alaska is just not difficult–it is physically impossible. The flight times involved are just too long. And if Palin were to spend long stretches at a time in the lower 48 she would be accused of misfeasance of office, just for starters. Likewise, should she tend to her knitting as Governor, she is isolated and out of sight of the major media. And if she DOES try to play it both ways she will end up in a “neither fish nor fowl” type situation going nowhere fast.

It just could be Palin has elected an end-run around the establishment and the MSM, as opposed to an strayght-up-the-gut traditional full-back dive power-play of using the Governor’s office as a national spring-board. Her opponents aren’t playing by the rules, why should she?

  11. Steven H.

I can’t resist. Which of the three do you take to the toilet with you?

Because bad is bad and worse is still pretty bad, eh? Where does SP sit in that equation? Pretty and bad, pretty bad? The worst? Sarah would eat Trig’s little toe for breakfast if she thought 12 people would applaud, Willy Kristol would swoon and the press would show up. Can you just picture her lipstick smudge on his little instep? Yummy.

And lastly, are we breaking out the black arm bands today to mark the passing of Bob McNamara? A great American who was responsible for getting all those names engraved in black granite down on the mall. Let us bow our heads and pray for his safe journey to hell.

  12. Mucho,

Interesting point, that it’s her fault for parading her family in front of everyone.

Follow-up question; does this not mean, then, that every politician’s family is fair game? And if so, why is it that the media, the comedians, and ignorant hacks on blogs never find the time to attack the families of liberal politicians?

Al Gore’s son was arrested for dealing drugs, but the media covered it up because their buddy Al asked them to. The Bush twins ordered a beer while in college and it became front page news. Joe Biden’s daughter is allegedly on video snorting cocaine, but I haven’t heard about that on the nightly news. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin’s daughter had a baby, and it’s all anyone wants to talk about.

Sarah Palin has had 15 bogus ethics charges brought against her, and all 15 have been thrown out. She has run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees defending herself against a party that thinks the best way to defeat one of their biggest threats is to bankrupt her. I hope she goes after every one of them with the same vigor they have pursued her.

Yes, I was disappointed that she resigned, but if it means she becomes free to unleash hell on the left, I will be her biggest supporter.

  13. Well…..I dunno. It seems that the more stuff thrown at Palin, the more I see how afraid the Dems are of her. Obama is coming up a zero in every sense of the word. Going to very interesting to see what Saracuda does in this next year. Is she really gone? NO ONE has been this exciting to the conservative base.

  14. Steve in Greensboro Says:

Thanks for the link to the pinheads on the editorial staff at Reason and who they voted for. A great reminder of why I stopped reading it. I wonder how happy they are with their vote today?

  15. Steve in Greensboro,

I still read it, because it’s fun to watch them whine about whom they voted for.

Very sad, for libertarianism. But entertaining.

  16. I think the attacks on her and her loved ones are unfortunate but she schlepped them out in all their tattered glory, what did she think would happen?

I’ll be interested to see your reaction should the same kind of hateful attacks ever be directed toward Obama’s children. After all, according to your logic, they have it coming.

  17. Frank,

I think that if the tape was verifiable it would be big news. Yet it is on the fron page of one of Americas largest newspapers, so what is your point?

    Mike,

If the Obama kids screw up as teens my guess is they will be joked about and reported on. I did not say SP kids deserved anything, only that they got what was predictable. They deserved to be left alone and to solve their teenage problems in private with their mom and dad. Unfortunately for Bristol her mom joined the political circus. She had a choice. Family loyality and the obligation to protect her kids or politics. She made a choice. If you stick your hand in the mouth of an alligator don’t complain about getting bit. If you worship at the alter of political power ambition don’t whine about the consequences. I find there to be nothing saintly about choosing political “service” as a career. It is a dirty, corrupt, dehumanizing arena where compromise is the rule and you family be damned.

  18. I wish she’s stayed in office, but I understand her reasoning. Skating On Glue said it all. The constant stream of ethics charges and lawsuits were making it impossible to do her job and were a drain on the state treasury. There was no sign of it letting up. It’s just a shame that, in reality, she might have had no other option than to go the route she did.

  19. You know, it really pisses me off to no end, that certain people pretend to sympathize with Palin over the attacks on her and her family, but they leave the implicit message, as a warning, if you are a Republican, or a conservative, etc., then if you care about your family, you’d better stay a private citizen. Otherwise, you can’t blame no one but yourself when you and your family are attacked. I think that is disgraceful and worthy of condemnation on the face of it. Unless of course these creeps are saying that if the Obamas and their children are attacked, then Barak and Michelle also “asked for it”. I have this strange idea they wouldn’t see it that way.

  20. PatricKelley,

You too must read closer if you are reading my post. My sympathy for her children is not a warning to conservatives. ALL politicians, aggressive, atavistic, self serving scum that they are, ( I dislike them all but many are despicable) put their families at risk. Their families DON’T deserve it regardless of their political leanings.

SP, is for so many reasons, not deserving of sympathy and few of them are about her politics.

We need look no further than her incredible hubris. The fact that she believes that her childish, ill informed, ramblings have something to add to the national discussion about ANYTHING is indicative of a character with a hole in it bigger than the Chunnel. Do you think she actually believes that her proximity to Russia means anything? She is so used to people looking at her, coveting her interest, that what she says is meaningless to both. Do you think she looks back at her school years and remembers how well she did in history, English, math and science or does she look back at how well she played basketball and her popularity with the boys? Has she EVER achieved a single thing, diploma, award, certificate, honor, which was the result of her sharp mind or in-depth analysis of a subject? Could she even discuss what intellectual curiosity means?

The answer is no to all of the above. She is not an accomplished person is any sense. So the question is what makes her think so little of the intelligence of the American voting public that she believes they will see in her the qualities of a capable leader when she herself does not?

Historically people like this are called hucksters. They know the bottle is full of worthless crap but, hey, that don’t mean they can’t make a buck on it. She is comfortable at the carnival. Her looks and personality have taken her pretty far. Bill Kristol got hoodwinked. He can’t stop picturing her giving him a blowjob long enough to hear what she is saying.

All you downtrodden conservatives out there must not lose sight of the fact that the objection to her is not about politics. Nobody gives a damn about her politics; she couldn’t formulate ten sentences in a row to explain what she thinks without leaping to her mangled version of the cliché’s forced down her gullet by the McCain operatives. She struggles to connect these cliché’s because she really doesn’t grasp them and cannot therefore connect them with the tissue of words agreeing in tense, number, verb, noun, etc are not available to her.

Finally, I am pleased she is here and that conservatives are extolling her virtues and feeling her pain. It is evidence that the ropes are torn; the good ship GOD AND COUNTRY is drifting out of the harbor toward the rocks assuring the world that Karl’s giddy vision of a “permanent republican majority” was the raving of a lunatic.

  21. Mucho, Karl Rove is an atheist, just so you know.

  22. Oh, also I’m too tired to read your essay. Hey, didja know you can get your own blog for free over on blogger.com?

  23. Mucho also misquoted Rove - in addition to simply parroting the same old laundry list of inane leftist talking points about Palin. And that’s the problem with parrots. They’re amusing at first, but they quickly become boring and repetitive.

  24. Moxie,
I will search for brevity in the future. Did not know that about Karl, I don’t think that will get him into my private heaven though. Blogger.com eh? sounds like a plan. Can you make any money at it?

Mike, like most of your ilk you chose to sweep aside all that you have heard before but can’t rebut, and generally know to be true, with the the same old broom of “tell me something i don’t already know”

As I said, I’m glad you like her and with people on the R pushing her the conservative agenda gets more crackpot day by day. Good stuff.

  25. Mucho, why don’t you just admit that you hate Palin for no other reason than so many Americans, especially American conservatives, love her? Oh, and it doesn’t stop there, either. A good many independent minded Americans, such as myself, love her as well. We feel she is one of us, unlike the ivory tower elites you so crave to run your life for you, and ours. I started out to give a point-by-point rebuttal of your mucho crap, but what’s the use? If she runs, she gets my vote. That’s all the hell I need to say.

  26. O, sweet Moxie, it saddens me to see you blinkered by that education of yours. Palin is a quitter, just like William’s cavalry at Hastings, or Hannibal’s infantry at Cannae.

  27. it saddens me to see you blinkered by that education of yours. Palin is a quitter,

Isn’t that what Moxie said at the outset?

  28. “We know she is ignorant” No, actually we don’t. Perhaps if she was a faux intellectual who never worked in the private sector and went straight into government like out current vice president you would like her better. Or a faux intellectual who never completed a job and spent all of his time since college running for the next job like our current president. I doubt if she ever signed up to be forced into bankrupcy by the constant ethics complaints inspired by nothing more than her political viewpoints.

  29. Buzz,

Yes we do. She has demonstrated all too many times that she is ignorant. Did you forget to turn the sound up? Bright, personable, but not educated. DOesn’t know much about the American system of government (”the vice president runs the Senate”) doesn’t know much about the world, lies to suit her talking points ( ” I was against that bridge to nowhere”) ( “I got that gas pipeline going”)(”Alasks is just like the rest of the country”). She is very exited to be in this maelstrom of the faltering RP where her fans tell her she could be the “one”. She is so hungry that kissing Alaska goodby was an easy choice. I’m glad you have her, really! It will keep you away from a real candidate, continue the dimantling of the party as a force and make for some funny TV. Don’t you ever forget that McCain-Lieberman might have won. I hope it gives you nightmares.
